I chose the fabulous Lauren Simano for a question for this week - I also received a few other questions that were really interesting and will use them in the future!
Soo...as asked by Ms. Simano...
What have you learned from past music teachers? (IE - Ms. Kuhn, Ms. Blair, Mr. Stevenson, etc.)
Have fun! A short week coming up - HOORAY. I seriously need a vacation, you?

Well I have learned how to breathe through my nose and my mouth. I know it sounds weird but Ms. Kuhn taught me how to do that. OBig taught me to just let it happen, like if you think about it to much it wont happen the way it should. Yeah so thats about it.

Ms. Kuhn taught me how to access my amazing upper tenor range. Mr. Stevenson taught me to feel the music, let it go, and relax.

I think I may have blocked out most of my middle school experiences for personal reasons, so I do not remember much of chorus with Mr. Stevenson... =(
But, having Ms. Kuhn last year really helped me with my singing. I learned how to sustain my breath and hold notes longer by supporting, and she also taught us that when you're singing a song and have to hold notes, not only must you stagger breathe (taking breaths at different times than your other section members so as to avoid breathing at the same time) but also if you must breathe in the middle of a note, form the word with your mouth and breathe in on it so no one will be able to tell that you're taking a breath instead of singing.
btw... i meant to post that comment on this blog. lol. im just awesome like that :) :) :) :)))
Yeah, I'm pretty sure my past chorus teachers taught me a lot, but due to my poor memory, I cannot remember who taught me what. Pretty much all of my singing knowledge comes from my past teachers, barring any knowledge imparted on me this year.
well ya see y old music teacher were lets say not the greatest barring Ms Kuhn she taught me that singing isnt about eing the loudest and t he best but being able to work in a group and taught me some confidence so umm ya im not delving into earlier teachers... its scary
I learned most of the same things from all the teachers. Breathing, shaping notes, etc. I've sung ever since I could so I encountered a lot of reiteration over the years. :D

I have not been in chorus for about 4 or 5 years so, I will just say that in Middle School I don't remember much because I was only in Chorus for one year before this year, so I will state what I have learned presently. I have learned more about music in general, and I have learned about shaping the notes, breathing, especially stagger breathing and how to have fun while singing. ( The mirrors help) lol. -Maria
this is pretty much my first music class since fifth grade, so anything i learned previously, i probably forgot. :D
well last year Ms.Kuhn helped me with my range i have been an alto for most of my life except when i was in like forth grade. but last year she put me in sup. because she thought that i could do it. but i found that im more comfortable as alto. but i use my upper range outside of class all the time. i like seeing how high and low i can go.
i learned a lot on soprano-ness from Mr. Stevenson. He taught me to be to wail out those high notes, and a lot about breathing strategies.
I also learned to pronounce diction more from Mr. Stevenson, because that was one thing he really drilled into our brains... anyone who had him can agree with me.
Becuase this is my first year in chorus, I can't really say anything.

i learned how to read music and how to stay in tune. he also help me with shaping my words and to be myself on the stage when singing.
Ms.Kuhn taught me so much in the one year that I had her, but the most important thing that she taught me was how to get out of my shell and just take chances, she pushed me farther and farther out of my comfort zone last year and its helped me a lot. I mean you see me in front of the class teaching warm-ups and the like, but last year I wouldnt have been able to do that without someone forcing me too; literally. She, and every other music teacher I've ever had, (including you Mrs. Flateau!!,) have helped to make me the person I am today. Thank you all so much! :)

Mr. Stevenson taught me how to breath with my diaphragm - not my shoulders. He taught us not to be afraid and wham that note "I can't hear you, I can't hear you, I can't hear you!" and a lot more......but it's been a while :$

P.S. you can call me Meg if you want :)
