That is the question for you fine, feathered friends, why music?
Why is music education an integral part of your education in school? What moments from "Mr. Hollands Opus" spoke to you about music education in America? Please expand a bit further on this and speak from the heart - I really would love to hear exactly why you choose to spend 45 minutes (and for some of you - another 45 minutes!) making music during your school day.
I'm very excited to read your responses :D
Have a great break!

I am SO proud of each and every one of you. The concert last night was wonderful and you should all feel very happy about the work you've done and how it turned out. You knocked my socks off!
We'll have a fun day today full of good food and singing for little ones! Thank you for being such hard working and fun people to spend time with!

BLOG 4 - REQUIRED POSTING!
I hope everyone had a great break - I know I did!
In honor of our concert being 10 days away - I'd like to open up the following question to my fellow blog-sters (AKA - you):
What do you personally (as in, not your section, not the whole chorus) feel you need to work on to make our concert a complete success? You can pick a piece, but please be specific in section and measure number. Also, specify what needs work in that area. Please remember this is about YOU not your section or any other section.
Since I posted the blog one day late (uh oh!) you get an additional day to finish it. So you have until Monday, December 8th to complete this blog at 11pm. Hooray!
Let's work hard and make our concert FAAAAABULOUS!

An announcement...
Our concert is just about two weeks away! Hard to believe, you've all come such a long way and have worked really hard. You should be proud of the work we've done!
Just to clarify - our concert order is as follows:
La dee da dee da entrance piece
Now I walk in beauty
Song of Galilee
Blow the Candles Out
Dide Ta Deo
Praise His Holy Name
Goin to Bethlehem
Too lah play zee oh recessional piece
It should be really great!
***
Thank you to all our soloist auditionees in the past few days - it was really difficult to choose only three people from all of those who auditioned. I tried to consider ability first and foremost, but when it came down to the wire if two students were of the same ability and in the finalist position for the solos, I went with the student with more seniority, but only if it came down to two who were of the same ability. I hope this makes sense to you :) Please don't be discouraged if you were not selected, you all sounded lovely and I wish I had enough solos for each and every one of you.
Fabulous work! Have a great Thanksgiving and be ready to polish up those pieces to perfection when we return to school on Dec. 1st!

AH and one more thing - don't forget to begin gathering your head to toe black for the concert. Shoes I'm not too too concerned with them being straight black - but I don't want to see any sneakers or anything like that - please.
Speaking of concert wear - I made a new poll about what else, SHOES. Have fun!

Blog #3 - comment here for the week of 11/23-11/30
I chose the fabulous Lauren Simano for a question for this week - I also received a few other questions that were really interesting and will use them in the future!
Soo...as asked by Ms. Simano...
What have you learned from past music teachers? (IE - Ms. Kuhn, Ms. Blair, Mr. Stevenson, etc.)
Have fun! A short week coming up - HOORAY. I seriously need a vacation, you?
Mrs. Flateau :)

BLOG #2 - COMMENT HERE FOR WEEK OF 11/16 - 11/23
Question for the week - please respond by 11/23 - Sunday!
If you could only listen to one GENRE of music for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? Take that one step further, and identify the one SONG you'd listen to for the rest of your life if you had to choose, and tell why. ONLY CHOOSE ONE! Hard choice huh?
(Genre is a classification - like Rock, Alternative, Country, Rap, etc.)
Have a nice week! Keep up the good work!

Thank you for participating! Your responses were nicely composed and thoughtful - thanks!
I've decided to add in a participation grade for each of these blog postings. I didn't think it was fair to entirely discount your in class participation for not being part of the blog - so I've separated them. You get 10 participation grades (1 for each week) each quarter - and I will also be giving a grade for this blog posting that is of similar weight. I've yet to set it up in PowerSchool but will get that done this week. So if you did not post to this blog - you will get a zero for the additional blog grade - but your participation will not be affected. If you posted to the blog - you will get a perfect score -hooray! Nice work - see you all tomorrow!

Blog #1 - COMMENT HERE FOR WEEK OF 11/9-11/16
Hokay - so this is the first required blog posting here on our spiffy chorus blog. I've had some difficulty getting our audio files up - so I'll be asking you a question today and you'll need to leave a response in the comment area of the blog. You don't have to get suuuuper in depth - but at least a few sentences or a coherent thought would be nice :P
Question for the week - please respond by 11/16 - Sunday!
As a singer in chorus or while singing for fun - what challenges you most? On the other hand - what do you feel that you do very well in relation to singing?
Be honest and have fun!
As a reward - an updated photo with all chorus members in the shot - except for me, Mrs. Flateau. *Cries*

One last thing...
And then I'm off to tend to Lily J all evening...
If you happen to see a reply from "Mina" - that is also me, Mrs. Flateau. It officially means I was too lazy to log out of my personal gmail account. And no, that does not mean you can call me Mina - unless you call me Mrs. Mina - which makes me sound like a cartoon character - which I am not.

Until another day...

High fives all around to those of you who are following the blog and/or left comments already. If you have not done this yet, you obviously need to follow the herd and get to it!
Like I mentioned in class, topics for discussion will be posted beginning next week - I hope to have the topic up by Sunday evening - you'll have until the following Sunday evening to reply to the post. I'll be checking on Monday morning around 8am and adjusting participation scores accordingly - if you have not participated in the post you will receive a 0 for the week - not a good thing! So take a moment (seriously, 2 minutes will suffice) and offer your thoughts to the almighty chorus gods - or Mrs. Flateau - whichever you find more appropriate.

Hokay - thanks for reading - GOOD WORK today on Goin' to Bethlehem and Song of Galilee - you were positively spooky in Song of Galilee - that's a good thing, by the way.

You're all so photogenic! (Except for Kyle. - What? WHO SAID THAT?!) Just kidding Kyle.

This is just a test...
Of Blogger's ability to handle video files...
Kyle and James' sick gymnastic skills.
Happy Halloween chorus fiends - and hooray for the end of Quarter one! 1/4 of the way through - and halfway to our first concert.
Just a reminder that our Winter Concert is on December 11th at 6:30pm! So far these are our potential pieces for the performance:
Blow the Candles Out
Now I Walk in Beauty
Toolah Play-zee-oh (recessional)
Dide Ta Deo
Goin to Bethlehem
Praise His Holy Name
Song of Galilee
Wow! That is a lot of music you've churned out in the past 10 weeks - you should be proud of the work you've done - I am :)
Have a fabulous weekend - I will see you on Monday for the start of Quarter Two (of DOOM - hah - just kidding - maybe.)
